A Classic Black and White Wedding at Belle Mer

Just Married sign on the back of a vintage car

Morgan and Adam were married on a gorgeous September 2024 weekend in Newport, Rhode Island. I had connected with Morgan not long before the wedding and had the privilege of working on some day-of stationery items for both their rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding day. These two are truly the kindest and were an absolute dream to work with! You can just see the joy radiating off them all weekend.

Beginning with their rehearsal dinner the evening prior, Morgan and Adam were joined by their closest people for an intimate dinner at The Vanderbilt. For the night before, the color palette was a bit more colorful with accents of blush pink and lilacs. The space is already full of rich green tones, complimented by the crisp white Conservatory room. The design paired beautifully with the space, tying in vintage artwork on oval menus, tied with silk ribbon and hand-calligraphed place cards for each guest. At the bar, we incorporated a linen sign against the black bar top. Here we brought in more spot calligraphy and carried over the same design elements from the table menus.

The wedding day began with a sentimental ceremony at the iconic St. Mary’s church in Newport. To transport the bride and groom over to the reception venue, a vintage car was decorated with one of my favorite elements - a custom ‘just married’ sign in flourished spot calligraphy. Ribbon tails trailed behind the car as they were brought over to Belle Mer to continue the celebrations. Here, the classic black and white color palette was made cozy with an abundance of candlelight, all-white florals, and white draping. We carried the same theme into their day-of paper. As guests arrived, they found their name in the escort card display in black calligraphy on cotton stock. At each place setting, guests found their name written once again in calligraphy atop the menus. Sunset views of the Newport bridge set the tone as they and their guests danced the night away.
