A Vibrant Summer Wedding at the ICA Boston

Rachel and Josh were married on a gorgeous June day - in fact, it was the first rain-free Saturday we had seen in months. Talk about a gift! When Renee and Ashley of Baciare Events reached out to me about this wedding, I was drawn to the bright, bold colors, impeccable design, and the iconic location of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston’s Seaport. After meeting with Rachel, I quickly felt connected to her warmth and excitement to marry Josh. The pairing of such a kind couple with all-star designers made for a dream team!

We started by designing their invitation suite. Beginning with The Luminary semi-custom design, we tailored it through fun paper colors, letterpress printing, and floral accents. With each design round, the suite got brighter and more vibrant - an ultimate reflection of the stunning florals to come on the wedding day. We pulled in hot pinks, corals, and lime green shades across the suite. One of my favorite details was the textured woven belly band that held everything together. The design inspiration featured lots of clean lines, so I wanted to select a unique feature that would tie in the linear element while also balancing the whimsy of the florals.

I had the pleasure of bringing to life their day-of paper as well. The ceremony was held out on the plaza of the ICA, where vibrant blooms popped against the backdrop of the Seaport. Guests were seated on the steps while the stunning chuppah was set up along the waterfront for the ceremony. The plaza served as the perfect location for Rachel and Josh to wed - sealed with portraits in the iconic Fan Pier.

For cocktail hour, guests transitioned upstairs into the theater room for drinks and appetizers. A large green bar was centered in the space, underneath a massive floral cloud. Guests could mingle all around the bar, where the drink menu was engraved into acrylic signage. We pulled in hot pink and coral shades of acrylic to match their invitations. Both signs were placed into light wood stands to tie into the chairs in the reception space. Guests found their names and seating assignments in a wall of hydrangeas - always a yes from me! Once it was time for dinner, guests went back downstairs into the lobby of the ICA for dinner and dancing.

The tables were set with more incredible florals, along with table numbers that matched the invitation suite. We pulled in the same floral borders and fonts across the day-of paper, from menus to dessert signs. Each table number rotated through one of four colors, bringing distinct color and uniqueness to each table. As the sun set, the space was filled with the glow of warm candlelight, heartfelt toasts, and artfully presented meals by The Catered Affair. The evening ended in a full dance floor, surrounded by all the love. Rachel and Josh, it was a privilege to play a small role in your special day!
